Amplify Austin is the city’s annual community-wide day of online giving. The 24-hour period provides an easy and fun way for our entire community to give together while helping local nonprofits. It’s the 7th #AmplifyATX on February 28th at 6 p.m. and giving back to our community has never been so easy!
New Monuments for New Cities is a public art exhibition that takes an important look at the role monuments have played in shaping cities and how they successfully speak to or, in some cases, misrepresent the people who live there. The exhibition will be on view at Waller Creek (12th & Red River) from March 2 through May 31, 2019.
Join us for a free, family-friendly opening celebration of New Monuments for New Cities featuring artist led walking tours of the exhibit, hands-on activities with partner organizations – Anti-Defamation League of Austin, AIA Austin, Mexican American Cultural Center, Austin History Center, and live music from Big Wy’s Brass Band. At noon, hear remarks from Cecilia Alemani, the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. Director & Chief Curator of High Line Art.
Through the Repellent Fence (2017)
Taking its inspiration from the New Monuments for New Cities exhibition, this free series features films about art and architecture that highlight themes of immigration, civic participation, patriotism, race, and heritage. A community discussion will accompany each film.
New Monuments for New Cities raises a number of questions about who and what has been memorialized in the past and how applying new lenses could shift that paradigm in the future. Join the dialogue as we host conversations with artists, historians, and community leaders about these themes.
